πŸ”’ Installing an SSL Certificate in cPanel

2 min read

SSL certificates secure your website by encrypting data between your site and visitors β€” turning your URL from http:// to https:// and displaying the trusted padlock icon πŸ” in browsers.

With Ozzietel hosting, you can install an SSL certificate directly in cPanel, whether it’s a free AutoSSL or a custom/purchased certificate.

🧰 What You’ll Need #

  • βœ… Access to your cPanel account
  • βœ… A domain hosted on your Ozzietel server
  • βœ… (Optional) A purchased SSL certificate (CRT, KEY, CA Bundle)

πŸ›‘οΈ Option 1: Install Free AutoSSL (Recommended) #

Ozzietel provides free SSL via AutoSSL for all active domains by default.

πŸš€ Step 1: Check AutoSSL #

  1. Log in to cPanel (yourdomain.com/cpanel)
  2. Go to SSL/TLS Status under the Security section
  3. Click Run AutoSSL if your domain doesn’t already have a certificate

βœ… After a few minutes, your site should be secured with a free Let’s Encrypt certificate.

πŸ” Option 2: Install a Purchased SSL Certificate #

If you’ve bought an SSL certificate from us or different provider, here’s how to install it manually.

πŸ“‚ Step 1: Prepare Your Certificate Files #

You’ll need:

  • Certificate (CRT) file
  • Private Key (KEY) file
  • Certificate Authority Bundle (CA Bundle) (optional, but recommended)

These are usually provided in a .zip file or emailed to you when the SSL is issued.

πŸ’» Step 2: Log in to cPanel & Open SSL/TLS #

  1. Log into cPanel
  2. Scroll to the Security section
  3. Click SSL/TLS
  4. Click Manage SSL sites under Install and Manage SSL for your site (HTTPS)

πŸ“₯ Step 3: Install the Certificate #

  1. In the Domain dropdown, select the domain you’re installing SSL for
  2. Paste the contents of each field:
    • Certificate (CRT)
    • Private Key (KEY)
    • CA Bundle (if available)
  3. Click Install Certificate

πŸŽ‰ Done! Your SSL certificate is now installed.

πŸ” Step 4: Test Your SSL #

After installation:

  • Visit your website using https://
  • Use an SSL checker like SSL Labs to verify everything is set up properly

πŸ” If your site doesn’t redirect to HTTPS automatically, consider setting up a redirect via .htaccess or using a plugin (if on WordPress).
