2 min read

Moving your email history from Gmail to your cPanel email account is simple with Google Takeout. This step-by-step guide will help you export your emails from Gmail and import them into your cPanel-hosted email using a free email client.

📦 Step 1: Export Your Gmail Emails Using Google Takeout #

  1. Visit Google Takeout.
  2. Click “Deselect all” to avoid downloading unnecessary data.
  3. Scroll down and select Mail.
  4. Click “All Mail data included” and customize if needed.
  5. Click Next Step.
  6. Under Delivery method, choose Send download link via email.
  7. For file type and size:
    • File type: .MBOX
    • Size: Select a size 2GB. Larger files will be split into multiple parts.
  8. Click Create export.

Google will now start creating the export. This may take a few minutes or hours, depending on the size of your mailbox. You’ll receive an email when the download is ready.

🗃️ Step 2: Download the MBOX File #

  1. Once you receive the download link, download the MBOX file to your computer.

This .mbox file contains all your exported Gmail emails.

📥 Step 3: Importing Your Email into cPanel #

Now that you have your .mbox file, it’s time to import the emails into your cPanel account using Webmail (Roundcube).

Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your Webmail by going to yourdomain.com/webmail.
  2. Choose Roundcube as your preferred Webmail client.
  3. Inside Roundcube, open the folder where you want to import your emails (e.g., Inbox).
  4. Click the Settings gear icon (bottom left).
  5. Select the Import messages option (under Preferences or via the top-right menu — this may vary by Roundcube version).
  6. Browse and select your .mbox file for import.
  7. Click Import.

Roundcube will now begin importing the emails. Depending on the file size, this may take a few minutes.

✅ Final Checks #

  • Log into your Webmail (yourdomain.com/webmail) to verify that your emails have uploaded properly.
  • Organize your emails into folders as needed.
  • Test sending and receiving emails to ensure everything is working.
